Event overview
The 2026 Virginia ANVIL Ultra Triathlon takes place October 8-10 at Lake Anna State Park in Spotsylvania, Virginia. Registration is completed online only; paper forms, race-day registration, and payment via services like PayPal or Venmo are not accepted. Double ANVIL athletes (solo and team) must submit a medical release form signed by a licensed doctor one month before the race.
Distances and entry fees:
- Single Anvil: 2.4 mi swim, 112 mi bike, 26.2 mi run - $850, 17 hour finish time limit
- 1.5x Anvil: 3.6 mi swim, 168 mi bike, 39.3 mi run - $1,200, 30 hour finish time limit
- Double Anvil: 4.8 mi swim, 224 mi bike, 52.4 mi run - $1,200, 36 hour finish time limit
Course and race rules
All segments use short loops inside the state park and are marked and staffed by volunteers. Swim loops are a 2,112-foot (644 m) out-and-back pattern around a 1,056-foot (322 m) swim line; Single athletes do 6 loops, 1.5x athletes do 9 loops, Double athletes do 12 loops. Lake depth in the swim area is no greater than 10 to 12 feet. Normal water temperatures average 65 to 70 degrees; wetsuits are recommended. Any swim stroke may be used; flotation devices, fins, and flippers are not allowed. Athletes must wear the provided colored swim cap.
The bike loop is 5.0769 miles (8.169 km) with mostly flat terrain, two medium hills, and small rollers. Night lighting is required - a front white light and rear red flashing light - and an ANSI/Snell approved helmet must be buckled when touching the bike. Drafting and headphones are prohibited. The run loop is 1.00769 miles (1.621719 km); crew support is restricted to the race village and may not be on course. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
