Pleasants Landing Triathlon
The Pleasants Landing Triathlon takes place at the Pleasants Landing Marina at Lake Anna in Bumpass, Virginia. This event features multiple multisport formats held in a venue that offers views of the Blue Ridge Mountains to the west. The swimming portion occurs in a section of Lake Anna where water temperatures are typically higher than the rest of the lake due to its proximity to the "hot side" discharge.
Participants can choose from several race categories and distances:
- Olympic Triathlon: 1.5K swim, 24 mile bike, and 10K run.
- Olympic Aquabike: 1.5K swim and 24 mile bike.
- Sprint Triathlon: 750 meter swim, 12.2 mile bike, and 5K run.
- Sprint Aquabike: 750 meter swim and 12.2 mile bike.
The swim courses use a time trial start and take place in the lake with sighting buoys located every 50-75 meters. The bike courses consist of rolling terrain on paved roads with views of the lake; the Olympic distance requires two loops, while the Sprint is a single loop. The run courses are out and back routes on paved and gravel surfaces, passing through woods and near the South Anna River.
The event is USA Triathlon sanctioned. Registered athletes receive a race shirt, socks, and a finisher medal. Categories are available for age groups, relay teams, military and first responders, and Clydesdale or Athena divisions. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
