Event Overview
The Giant Acorn Triathlon Festival features Olympic and Sprint distance triathlon events. The event takes place at Lake Anna State Park in Spotsylvania, Virginia. It is scheduled for two days in September.
Distances and Events
The festival includes six events split across two days. On the first day, the Olympic distance events are held. On the second day, the Sprint distance events take place.
Olympic Distance Events (Day 1)
- Individual Olympic Triathlon: A 1.5k swim, a 24.6-mile bike, and a 10k run.
- Individual Olympic Aquabike: A 1.5k swim and a 24.6-mile bike.
- Olympic Triathlon Relay: A team event (2 or 3 people) covering the same Olympic distances.
Sprint Distance Events (Day 2)
- Individual Sprint Triathlon: A 750m swim, a 15.5-mile bike, and a 5k run.
- Individual Sprint Aquabike: A 750m swim and a 15.5-mile bike.
- Sprint Triathlon Relay: A team event (2 or 3 people) covering the same Sprint distances.
All events are open to participants aged 12 and over.
Course and Venue Details
The races are staged at Lake Anna State Park. The swim start is from a sandy beach using a time trial format, where athletes start two at a time. The swim takes place in freshwater. The bike course travels on rolling country roads. The run course is contained entirely within the state park grounds.
The park venue offers banked stadium-style seating overlooking sections of the course and the finish line. The park itself features amenities like miles of trails, a playground, a swimming beach, and a visitors center with a "gold mine" exhibit.
Additional Information
The event is the USA Triathlon Virginia State Championships for both Olympic and Sprint distances. It is a USA Triathlon sanctioned event. Registration includes several items: a finisher medal, a long-sleeved tech shirt, custom race socks, a reusable bag for packet pickup, timed results, age group awards, a post-race meal, a finisher certificate, and free finish line photos.
