Medford SwimFest #1
Medford SwimFest #1 is a multi-sport event taking place in Medford, New Jersey, featuring a series of open water swimming challenges and a SwimRun. The event utilizes a circular 800 meter swim course, with participants completing different numbers of laps depending on their selected distance.
Participants have the option to enter one or multiple events:
- 800 Meter Open Water Swim: A single lap of the course.
- 1600 Meter Open Water Swim: Two laps of the course.
- 2400 Meter Open Water Swim: Three laps of the course.
- SwimRun: A combined event consisting of a 1600m swim (two laps) and a 5K run (one lap).
The swimming portion uses an in-water, wave-start format. Participants remain in the water between laps and only exit after completing their final lap to finish on land. Each race allows for a 10-minute warm-up period near the start area. The event is professionally chip-timed, and results are available on-site and online.
Regarding equipment, all swimmers must wear the provided swim cap. Wetsuits are permitted based on a water temperature threshold of 78 degrees; their use is generally expected due to April temperatures. Fins are prohibited. Safety support includes on-water personnel such as kayakers and lifeguards. Water and food items are provided at the finish line for athletes. Custom awards are presented to the top three male and female finishers in various age categories. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
