Overview
The RVA Sprint Triathlon is a multisport event held at the Rockville Center in Rockville, Virginia. This USA Triathlon sanctioned event features a pool-based swim and takes place on rural roads and local courses. The competition is designed to support fitness programs for children via the Live Red Foundation.
Race Options
Participants can choose from several formats depending on their preference for swimming, cycling, or running:
- Sprint Triathlon: A 300-yard pool swim, a 20 km bike ride on rolling rural roads, and a 5 km out-and-back run.
- Beginner-Only Triathlon: A 150-yard pool swim, a 6 mile bike ride, and a 1.5 mile run.
- Duathlon: A 0.75 mile run followed by the designated bike course and a final run.
- Aquabike: A combination of the swim and bike legs only.
- Kid’s Splash & Dash: A swim-run event for ages 15 and under consisting of a 100-yard swim and a 1 mile run.
Event Features
The sprint triathlon includes a seeded race start where the top 12 seeded women start approximately seven minutes before the top 12 seeded men. Other participants begin via a time-trial start. The bike portion is conducted on open rural roads with rolling terrain. Every finisher receives a medal, and awards are presented to the top three male and female finishers in the overall categories and age groups.
