Lums Pond Triathlon
The Lums Pond Triathlon is a multi-sport event held in Lums Pond State Park in Bear, Delaware. This mid-season competition is a USA Triathlon Sanctioned Event and serves as the USA Triathlon Delaware State Championships. Participants can qualify for the Toyota Age Group National Championships based on their performance in the sprint or Olympic distances.
The event offers several race categories for athletes aged 12 and older:
- Olympic Triathlon: 1.5k swim, 23-mile bike, and 10k run
- Olympic Aquabike: 1.5k swim and 23-mile bike
- Sprint Triathlon: 750m swim, 10-mile bike, and 5k run
- Sprint Aquabike: 750m swim and 10-mile bike
- Relay Teams: Available for both Olympic and Sprint triathlon distances
The freshwater swim utilizes a time trial start, with two athletes beginning every few seconds. The swim follows a rectangular course that parallels the shore for the first 250 meters. The bike legs are held on a flat loop with right-hand turns on paved surfaces. The run course consists of forested single-track trails with lake views and wide gravel walking paths.
Registration includes a finisher medal, an event tech shirt, custom race socks, and timed results. Participants also receive a post-race meal and access to free finish line photos.
