Course Details
The event is held on the Rockaway Beach boardwalk, which offers ocean views and a smooth, concrete surface for the running and biking segments. The swim is an open water event in the Atlantic Ocean. Conditions can include big waves, strong currents, and cold water, with seasonal temperatures typically in the high 50s to low 60s Fahrenheit. Wetsuits are permitted and encouraged. Lifeguards and NYPD Water Patrol are on duty during the swim.
The transition area and race start are at the B95th Street Rockaway Beach Amphitheater. The specific course distances are:
- Triathlon: A 400-meter swim, a 12-mile bike (2 loops on the boardwalk), and a 3-mile run.
- Duathlon: A 3-mile run, a 12-mile bike (2 loops on the boardwalk), and a final 3-mile run.
- Aquabike: This event consists of the swim and bike segments only.
The bike course is flat and smooth but can be windy on the return leg. The run course is an out-and-back route on the boardwalk. The event is not USAT certified or sanctioned, so a USAT racing license is not required. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
