CajunMan Multisport Events
The CajunMan event in Lafayette, Louisiana, offers a variety of multisport races centered around the Lafayette Regional Airport and Airport Lake. Participants can choose between several formats including triathlon, duathlon, aquathlon, aquabike, and a standalone 5k run or walk.
The event features the following distances and categories:
- Triathlon: a 0.5 mile swim in Airport Lake, a 20 mile bike ride, and a 3.1 mile (5k) run.
- Beginner Triathlon: a 400 meter swim, a 20 mile bike ride, and a 5k run.
- Duathlon: a 5k run, followed by a 20 mile bike ride, and a final 5k run.
- Aquathlon: a swim followed by a run.
- Aquabike: a swim followed by a bike ride.
- 5k Run/Walk: a 3.1 mile footrace on the airport grounds.
The swim portion takes place in open water, where water temperatures typically average in the mid-70s. Wetsuit use is governed by USA Triathlon regulations. The cycling portion follows a 20 mile route through Lafayette Parish on marked roads. The run concludes on a course through the Lafayette Regional Airport grounds, featuring at least three water stations.
Relay teams of two or three members are permitted for the triathlon and duathlon formats. Specialized divisions such as Athena (for women weighing at least 165 pounds) and Clydesdale (for men weighing at least 220 pounds) are also available. Apart from the 5k run, all events are sanctioned by USA Triathlon, requiring participants to hold a valid membership or purchase a one-day license.
