Event Overview
The Belews Lake Olympic Triathlon takes place at Carolina Marina in Stokesdale, North Carolina. This multisport event features a time trial start and utilizes the clear waters of Belews Lake along with the surrounding rural roads. Participants can choose between three different race formats:
- Olympic Triathlon: 1500 meter swim, 27 mile bike, and 10 kilometer run.
- Aquabike: 1500 meter swim and 27 mile bike.
- Duathlon: 5 kilometer run, 27 mile bike, and 10 kilometer run.
Course Details
The swim portion is a triangular course in Belews Lake, starting from a boat launch. It is an in-water start where swimmers are seeded based on submitted times. The 27 mile bike segment consists of two loops on smooth, rural country roads featuring several hills. The 10 kilometer run takes place on smooth roads over two loops, following a route with rolling hills and views of the lake. Aid stations are located at every mile during the run.
Participation and Awards
The event is chip-timed with five timing point splits. Registration includes a sublimated short sleeve shirt and a finisher's medal. Awards are presented to the top three overall male and female finishers, as well as the top three finishers in age groups ranging from 14 and under to 80 plus. Specific categories for collegiate athletes, Athenas, Clydesdales, and relay teams are also recognized. The race is part of the Trivium Multisport Series and the Club Cup Series.
Logistics
The transition area and check-in are located at the Carolina Marina. Parking is available on-site, situated within walking distance of the staging area, with volunteers providing direction along Shelton Road. Post-race food and drinks are provided for participants.
