Event Details
The Uwharrie 5 Hour Adventure Race (Boat & Hike) takes place in Morrow Mountain State Park, North Carolina. The start and finish location is the picnic shelter in the upper parking lot.
Format and Disciplines
The event involves two disciplines: hiking (5-7 miles) and paddling (3-6 miles). Participants navigate to a series of checkpoints placed on natural features like hilltops, stream intersections, coves, or trail intersections using pre-plotted CalTopo maps. Individuals can compete solo or in teams of two to four. Team members must stay within 100 feet of each other unless otherwise instructed.
Participant Requirements
All participants must sign a waiver. Minors must race with an adult. Food and drinks are provided for racers after the event.
Mandatory Gear
Racers must provide their own food and fluids for the race duration. Required individual gear includes a pen/pencil, knife, whistle, and an individual headlight with extra batteries. Required team gear includes a canoe or kayak (which participants can provide themselves or rent through the organizer), a compass, a watch, a cell phone in a waterproof case, and a basic first aid kit.
