The ROC Indoor Tri
The ROC Indoor Tri is an indoor multi-sport competition held at the Louis Wolk Jewish Community Center in Rochester. This event follows the sequential triathlon format consisting of swimming, cycling, and running, all performed within a controlled indoor environment. Participants compete in heats of 10 athletes, with new waves starting every 20 minutes to accommodate the transition between disciplines.
The competition is a timed event where athletes spend a fixed duration on each segment. The results are determined by the distance covered in each discipline, and an average ranking system is used to decide the awards. The event includes two primary categories:
- Indoor Triathlon for participants aged 13 to 99.
- Kids Indoor Triathlon for participants aged 7 to 12.
The event structure consists of a 15-minute swim in a five-lane lap pool, where two athletes share a lane and count completed laps. This is followed by a 15-minute cycling segment on stationary bikes, where participants can adjust wattage to impact their total distance. The final portion is a 15-minute run conducted on calibrated treadmills.
A 5-minute transition period is provided between each segment. Volunteers monitor the pool, bikes, and treadmills to record distances. Following the conclusion of the heats, the venue hosts an awards ceremony to recognize top performers in various categories, including overall winners, age group leaders, and discipline-specific achievements.
