The Texas City Triathlon is a multisport event taking place at Bay Street Park and the Texas City Dike. The event features several disciplines to accommodate different athletic preferences, including triathlon, duathlon, and aquabike formats. The swimming portion occurs in a sandy bottom area, while the cycling segment takes place on the dike, which is known for its flat surface. The running portion of the event utilizes the trails within Bay Street Park.
Participants can choose from the following event options:
- Sprint Triathlon: A 500-meter swim, 15-mile bike, and 3.1-mile run.
- Sprint Duathlon: A 2-mile run, 15-mile bike, and 3.1-mile run.
- Sprint Aquabike: A 500-meter swim and 15-mile bike.
The triathlon offers several specific registration categories, including age groups, first-time participants, and a guardians category for police, fire, EMS, and military personnel. There are also weight-based divisions for Clydesdales and Athenas. Relay teams consisting of two or three athletes are permitted for both the triathlon and duathlon distances. Events are also open to paratriathletes. Awards are presented for overall performance in the duathlon and aquabike events, as well as age group and overall categories in the triathlon.
