Swan Lake Grit-N-Gravel Triathlon
The Swan Lake Grit-N-Gravel Triathlon takes place at the Swan Lake Resort & Campground in Fergus Falls, Minnesota. This event features a off-road focused course through the lakes country, utilizing private trails, gravel roads, and paved paths. Participants can compete as individual athletes or as part of a relay team.
The event offers the following distances and formats:
- Triathlon (Individual or Relay): 1,000 yard swim, 18 mile bike, 4 mile trail run
- Kids Duathlon: 1 mile (short gravel bike loop and mini run)
The swim segment consists of a 1,000 yard course in Swan Lake, starting from a sandy beach with water depths reaching 8 feet. The bike portion covers 18 miles with approximately 1,000 feet of elevation gain; the terrain is split between 60% hilly gravel roads and 40% flat pavement on the Central Lakes Trail. The final 4 mile run is an out-and-back route moving through hiking trails, gravel roads, prairie trails, and wooded paths, including significant elevation at the Ugly Duckling Lodge.
Timing for the triathlon is conducted manually and casually rather than with electronic chips. While podium finishers are acknowledged, detailed individual split reports are not provided. The event includes on-site safety support from local sheriff's water patrol and emergency medical services. A dedicated kids race is held entirely on the resort property for participants aged 2 to 12. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
