Event Overview
The Smith Mountain Lake Ultra Triathlon takes place at Smith Mountain Lake State Park, located within the Blue Ridge Mountains of Virginia. This multi-day event features a range of endurance disciplines including ultra-triathlons, aquabikes, and duathlons. The competition is officially sanctioned by USA Triathlon.

Participants can choose from several long-distance categories, available for solo athletes and relay teams:
- Double Ultra Triathlon: 281.2 miles, including a 4.8-mile open water swim, 224-mile bike, and 52.4-mile run.
- Double Ultra Duathlon: 276.4 miles, consisting of a 224-mile bike and 52.4-mile run.
- Double Ultra Aquabike: 228.8 miles, featuring a 4.8-mile swim and 224-mile bike ride.
- Single Ultra Triathlon: 140.6 miles, with a 2.4-mile swim, 112-mile bike, and 26.2-mile run.
- Single Ultra Duathlon: 138.2 miles, combining a 112-mile bike with a 26.2-mile run.
- Single Ultra Aquabike: 114.4 miles, involving a 2.4-mile swim and 112-mile bike.
- The Endure 4-5-6: 98 miles, featuring a 4.8-mile swim, 100k bike, and 50k run with specific time cutoffs.
Event Facilities and Services
The transition area serves as the central hub for the race. Every athlete is assigned a dedicated space to set up their gear. Options include bringing a personal tent or renting one that comes equipped with a table and two chairs. This central zone contains the timing mats, a device charging station, and a bike mechanic area. Scheduled meals are served in the nutrition area within this space. The weekend itinerary includes an athlete briefing, a pre-race dinner for participants and volunteers, and an awards banquet to conclude the event.
