Event Details
The Smith Mountain Lake Sprint Triathlon takes place at Smith Mountain Lake State Park in Huddleston, Virginia. The event offers three different formats: an individual triathlon, an individual aquabike, and a triathlon relay for teams of two or three people. The individual triathlon consists of a 750m swim, a 20K bike, and a 5K run. The aquabike event includes the swim and bike legs only. Registration is open to participants aged 12 and older. The event is sanctioned by USA Triathlon.
The Course
The swim leg begins with a sandy beach start in the clear waters of Smith Mountain Lake. The subsequent bike and run courses are described as rolling. The event utilizes a time trial swim start, with athletes starting two at a time, and features an optional Elite Box Start for those aiming for top overall positions.
Additional Information
Participants receive a race shirt and Smith Mountain Lake Triathlon branded socks at packet pickup. A food truck called The Bagel & I will be at the event with items for purchase. The race is part of the Kinetic Multisports series, where athletes can qualify for additional rewards by participating in multiple events.
