Shawnee Mission Triathlon and Duathlon
The event takes place on Sunday, August 2, 2026, at Shawnee Mission Park in Lenexa, KS. The course goes through the park and joins the Mill Creek Streamway Trail, which features asphalt pathways along the stream and through hillside forests. The event includes multiple triathlon distances, a duathlon, relay divisions, and a special entry category for Garmin employees.
Course options
- Triathlon - Olympic: 1500 meter swim, 27 mile bike (6 laps), 6.1 mile run
- Triathlon - Long: 1000 meter swim, 18 mile bike (4 laps), 4.68 mile run
- Triathlon - Short: 500 meter swim, 9 mile bike (2 laps), 3.1 mile run
- Triathlon - Super Sprint: 200 meter swim, 4.5 mile bike (1 lap), 2.25 mile run
- Duathlon: 3.1 mile run, 13.5 mile bike (3 laps), 3.1 mile run
Competition structure and categories
The event is the USA Triathlon Kansas State Championship for 2026. The top 35 percent of finishers in the Short Course and Olympic Triathlons qualify for USA Triathlon Nationals. The race is designated Paratriathlon Friendly; adaptive athletes register in an Individual Adaptive Open Division. Athena (women) and Clydesdale (men) divisions are offered with minimum weights of 165 pounds for women and 220 pounds for men, and age categories split at 39 years and under and 40 years and over.
The duathlon run segments use the main park road and the Mill Creek Streamway Trail; the first run loop is counterclockwise and the second loop is clockwise. The bike segment is three laps on the main park road. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
