Event Overview
The Pioneer Power Sprint Triathlon & 5k takes place at the Texas Woman's University campus in Denton, Texas. This multisport event includes options for individual competitors, three-person teams, and relay groups. Now in its 17th edition, the event serves as a fundraiser for the TWU soccer team. Participants receive a technical shirt and a finisher's medal upon completion of their chosen race.
Race Formats and Distances
The event features several competition modes for the sprint triathlon and a standalone running race:
- Sprint Triathlon: 250 yard pool swim, 16 mile bike, and 3.1 mile run.
- 5k Run/Walk: Standalone 3.1 mile course for runners and walkers.
For the triathlon, the individual competition is organized into five-year age group increments. Specific divisions are also available for Clydesdale (male athletes 220 lbs+) and Athena (female athletes 165 lbs+).
Team and Relay Options
The event offers two distinct group formats. The Team Competition requires three members to each complete the entire triathlon. Their individual times are combined to determine a final group ranking. Conversely, the 3 Person Relay allows each member to complete just one segment of the triathlon (swim, bike, or run). Both formats include male, female, and coed divisions.
Post-Race Activities
The event concludes with a post-race gathering featuring food and drink, including pancakes. The area hosts vendor booths, giveaways, and the awards ceremony for both the triathlon and the 5k participants. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
