Medical Lake Triathlon
The Medical Lake Triathlon takes place in late May at Medical Lake, Washington. This multisport event is sanctioned by USAT and includes a variety of race formats held on and around the lake and surrounding countryside. Participants compete in swimming, cycling, and running disciplines, with local safety personnel and lifeguards present during the water segments.
The event offers three distinct categories:
- Super Sprint: A 0.25 mile swim, 11 mile bike ride, and 5 km run.
- Sprint: A 0.5 mile swim, 22 mile bike ride, and 10 km run.
- Splash n Dash: A youth event for ages 7 to 15 featuring a 100 m swim and 1.5 mile run.
The swimming portion starts in knee-deep water in Medical Lake. The cycling leg follows a fast and flat route through the countryside on SR902. For the final discipline, participants complete a mostly flat run on an asphalt trail around the lake, with those in the 10 km category completing two laps.
The transition area, start, and finish lines feature music. Participants receive specific timing scores for each sport as well as both transitions. Facilities include parking at Medical Lake Park. All athletes receive a t-shirt and a forged finisher medal. Post-race nutrition includes fruit alongside steak and vegetable sandwiches. As a USAT sanctioned event, a membership is required for all participants. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
