Flora-Bama's 28th Mullet Man Triathlon
The Flora-Bama Mullet Man Triathlon takes place in Pensacola, Florida, and supports the organization Mobile Baykeeper. Participants compete in a multi-stage event that crosses between Florida and Alabama. The race uses a gun start with chip timing for the finish.
The event consists of three consecutive segments:
- 1/4 Mile Swim: Conducted in the Ole River behind the Flora-Bama Ole River Grill, where wetsuits are permitted but optional.
- 16.5 Mile Bike: A course starting at the Flora-Bama North Parking Lot, heading west into Alabama under the Perdido Pass Bridge, and returning east into Florida along Perdido Key Drive and River Road.
- 3.9 Mile Run: A route starting at the Ole River Grill that heads west into Alabama, turns around under the Perdido Pass Bridge, and finishes in front of the Flora-Bama.
Athletes can compete in several categories, including individual age groups, first-time triathlete, fat tire or mountain bike, and weighted divisions such as Athena and Clydesdale. An Aqua Bike division is also available, though it does not offer awards. Relay teams of two or three members may participate by passing a single timing chip between legs.
The post-race activities include an awards ceremony held under the tent at the Flora-Bama, featuring a breakfast buffet for participants. Standard safety regulations require bike helmets and the walking of bicycles through transition areas. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
