Event Overview

The Eagle River Triathlon is scheduled for late June 2026 in Chugiak, Alaska, approximately 20 miles north of Anchorage. The event serves as the 2026 USA Triathlon Alaska State Championship.

Event Format

The multi-sport event features several disciplines held over two days. The state championship races are the Olympic and Sprint distance triathlons. Other event options include a duathlon, team relays, and a dedicated kids' triathlon day.

Course Details

The swim for the triathlon events takes place in the Chugiak High School pool. For the Olympic distance, this is a 1500m swim, and for the Sprint distance, a 500yd swim.

The bike course is described as a "roller coaster" with hills and turns. The Olympic distance features a 40km double out-and-back route, while the Sprint and Duathlon use a 20km course.

The run courses are set between the Chugach mountain range and the Glenn Highway. The Olympic distance includes a 10km run, and the Sprint/Duathlon includes a 5km run.

Additional Events

A Sprint Duathlon replaces the swim with a 1-mile trail run. Relay teams of 2-3 participants are available for both Sprint and Olympic distances. The kids' races offer two distances: a Long Course with a 300yd swim, 2-mile bike, and ~1.2-mile run, and a Short Course with a 50yd swim, 1-mile bike, and ~0.6-mile run.
