Overview
The Ann Arbor Tri, Du, & Aquabike is a multi-sport event held at the Halfmoon Lake Day Use Facility within the Pinckney Recreation Area in Gregory, Michigan. Established in 1986, this event takes place in one of the largest state parks in Michigan. Participants compete in a variety of disciplines including swimming, cycling, and running across the park's natural terrain and surrounding rural roads.
Course Details
The event features open water swimming in Halfmoon Lake. The cycling portion takes place on rolling paved country roads in the local area. The running segments utilize the Potowatomi Trail and other trail systems within the park. The event operates as a Leave No Trace race with a focus on recycling and composting.
Event Categories
Participants can choose from several individual and team disciplines:
- Olympic Triathlon: 1500m swim, 28-mile paved road bike, and 5.3-mile trail run.
- Sprint Triathlon: 750m swim, 14-mile paved road bike, and 3.5-mile trail run.
- Olympic Aquabike: 1500m swim and 28-mile paved road bike.
- Sprint Duathlon: 2-mile run, 14-mile paved road bike, and 3.5-mile trail run.
- Open Water Swim: A standalone 1-mile swim event.
- Relay Options: Teams of two or three can participate in Sprint or Olympic Triathlon distances.
Logistics
A Michigan State Park permit or Recreation Passport is required for vehicle entry into the Pinckney Recreation Area. Post-race activities include a gathering with food such as pancakes and breakfast burritos for event participants. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
