Event Overview
The Trio Rio Triathlon is a multisport event organized by the City of Albuquerque Parks & Recreation Department in Albuquerque, New Mexico. This event is a USAT-sanctioned reverse triathlon, which means the traditional competition order is modified. Participants begin the race with a run, move to a bike segment, and conclude the event with a swim. The competition is based at the Rio Grande Outdoor Pool.
Race Formats and Distances
The event offers two main participation options: an individual sprint triathlon and a relay triathlon for teams of two or three people. Both categories cover the same course distances:
- 5K Run
- 20K Bike
- 400y Swim
Course Details and Features
The course is designed to be fast and utilizes the Rio Grande Outdoor Pool for the final leg. By finishing with the swim, athletes transition from the road to the water for the final portion of the race. The event includes professional chip timing to provide accurate results for all participants. Each registrant receives a technical race shirt, an official swim cap, and access to a sanctioned and organized course.
The location for the start and finish operations is situated on Iron Ave SW, providing a central point for transitions between the running, cycling, and swimming disciplines. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
