Event overview

Tri the Parks - Richard B Russell is a multi-discipline race day on July 11, 2026, at Russell State Park in Elberton, GA (2650 Russell State Park Drive, Elberton, GA 30635). The event offers both Intermediate and Sprint XL distance formats with the following race types: triathlon, duathlon, aquabike, and relays. Registration closes on July 11 or when the field limit of 350 is reached. T-shirts are not guaranteed for entries made after June 28. All athletes receive swim caps and will be body marked with race number and age. Bike racking in transition is assigned by race number.

Courses and logistics

  • Intermediate: Swim 1,500 m, Bike 22.6 miles, Run 6.2 miles
  • Sprint XL: Swim 750 m, Bike 22.6 miles, Run 3.1 miles

Swim courses use a time trial format with athletes lined up in race number sequence and starting at short intervals. The wetsuit ruling is based on the race day water temperature; wetsuits are legal when the temperature is below 78 degrees. The bike route follows park roads onto paved county roads with directional signs and mile markers; intersections will be staffed but the course is open to traffic. The Intermediate run is two laps of a 3.1-mile loop; the Sprint XL run is one 3.1-mile lap. Water stations and electrolyte hydration are placed at each mile on the run. Parking is first-come, first-serve near the beach; overflow parking is at the pavilion about 1/4 mile from transition and volunteer attendants will direct vehicles.
