Summer Biathlon

The Summer Biathlon, held at Lake Afton Park's Young Hunter Safety Range in Goddard, Kansas, is a unique event combining running and rifle shooting. Designed by winter biathletes for summer training, the race features three running segments (1500m, 2000m, and 1500m) interspersed with two shooting bouts—first prone, then standing—using .22 rifles at knockdown targets. Participants start in pairs based on their 5k times to reduce shooting congestion.

Time deductions are awarded for each target hit, enhancing competition. Rifles and ammo are provided, with specific equipment rules for personal firearms.
