The swim takes place in a calm area of the Atlantic Ocean. The bike course departs Crandon Park and climbs the William Powell Bridge, which has a steady 4 percent grade up to about 76 feet and provides a view of the City of Miami skyline; riders complete one, two, or three laps of the full bike loop for Sprint, International, and Olympic distances respectively. The remainder of the bike course is flat. The run uses paved trails through Crandon Park with ocean views and shaded sections; run laps match the bike lap counts by distance.
