Event Overview
The Luck of the Irish Triathlon, Run-Bike-Run & 5K takes place at Life Time Fitness McKinney Craig Ranch in McKinney, Texas. This multisport event is sanctioned by USA Triathlon and features several different formats and distances to accommodate various preferences.
Race Formats
Participants can choose from the following categories:
- Sprint Triathlon: 300 meter pool swim, 12 mile bike (2 loops), and 5k run.
- Super Sprint Triathlon: 200 meter pool swim, 6 mile bike (1 loop), and 2 mile run.
- Run-Bike-Run: 1 mile run, 12 mile bike (2 loops), and 5k run.
- 5K: A standard 5k running race.
The swimming portion for the triathlons is conducted as a snake swim in a 50 meter outdoor pool. The minimum age for the sprint and run-bike-run categories is 13 years, while the super sprint requires a minimum age of 11 years.
Logistics and Procedures
The event utilizes chip timing, with awards based on chip times. All participants must be body marked before entering the transition area. Only athletes and event staff are permitted inside the transition zone. A USAT annual membership or a one-day license is required for all participants in the multisport categories.
For those unable to attend in person, a virtual option is available where participants can complete the distances at their own location and pace. Course maps for the swim, bike, and run segments are provided in the athlete documentation. All finishers receive a medal and a race t-shirt.
