Lake Nighthorse Triathlon

The Lake Nighthorse Triathlon takes place in Durango, Colorado. Participants compete in a multi-sport race featuring swimming, road cycling, and running. The event is centered around Lake Nighthorse, with the swim portion held directly in the lake waters.

The cycling segment consists of a road bike course that includes several climbs. For the final stage, the run takes place on a rolling course consisting primarily of natural dirt and gravel surfaces. This section of the race provides views of the surrounding lake area. The event offers two primary distances, with the longer course following a two-lap format of the shorter course for each discipline.

Participants can choose from the following event categories:

  • Individual Sprint: 750m swim, 20k road bike, and 5k run.
  • Individual Olympic: 1500m swim, 40k road bike, and 10k run.
  • Sprint Relay: 750m swim, 20k road bike, and 5k run for male, female, or coed teams.

The event is held at Lake Nighthorse with registration occurring in the months leading up to the competition. All transitions and disciplines are managed within the park and the adjacent road network. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
