Overview
The Lake Max Triathlon and Duathlon is held in August at the Campus of Culver Academies in Culver, Indiana. The event includes adult triathlon and duathlon options, a team relay, and children’s triathlon races. The event is sanctioned by USA Triathlon. Packet pick up is offered before race day. Participants must pre-register; there is no race day registration and registrations are nonrefundable.
Race formats and distances
- Adult Triathlon: 400 meter swim, 11 mile bike, 5K run.
- Adult Duathlon: 1600 meter run, 11 mile bike, 5K run.
- Team Relay: teams of 2 or 3.
- Kids 5-7: 50 meter swim, 1 mile bike, 1/2 mile run.
- Kids 8-10: 75 meter swim, 1 mile bike, 1 mile run.
- Kids 11-12: 75 meter swim, 1 mile bike, 1 mile run.
The bike and run routes are contained on campus. The bike route is on grass and the running route is on pavement. Children may wear life jackets for the swim.
Registration, safety and amenities
Early registration by July 21 guarantees an event shirt. Published fees include adult and duathlon entry prices and team fees, with higher fees for later registration; the kids race fee is listed as $20. Safety resources include members of a state police dive team and multiple lifeguards in the water. Children’s transition area is supervised by Culver Youth Club staff. Helmets are required for the bike portions and headphones or ear devices are not allowed during competition.
