Courses and logistics
Distances offered:
- Sprint: 500 yard swim; 12 mile bike; 3.1 mile run
- Olympic: 1500 meter (about 1650 yard) swim; 25 mile (about 24.8 mile) bike; 6.2 mile run
- Half Iron: 1.2 mile swim; 56 mile bike; 13.1 mile run
The swim is a lake swim at Lake Clare with individual time-trial style beach starts and buoy-marked turns. The bike routes use flat county roads that remain open to traffic with police controlling intersections; the sprint and Olympic are out-and-back, the half iron is two laps. The sprint and Olympic bike courses have no aid stations; the half iron bike course has three aid stations at about 20, 28, and 48 miles. The run courses use paved roads and the paved trail system through town; the half iron runs two out-and-back laps and the Olympic runs one lap on the new paved trail course. Aid stations are provided frequently in the park (about every 0.75 miles) and about every mile once out of the park.
Transition is on grass near the beach with a maximum of eight bicycles per rack; only participants and volunteers may enter. Helmets must meet CPSC standards. Headphones and personal audio devices are prohibited. Wetsuit rules follow USAT temperature guidelines. All finishers receive a medal and all participants receive a race t-shirt.
