Gaylord All Outdoors Tri 45 Winter Triathlon
The Gaylord All Outdoors Tri 45 Winter Triathlon takes place at Forbush Corners in Frederic, Michigan. This multi-sport event is designed to promote outdoor activity during the winter season, utilizing snow-packed paths and frosty terrain. The competition features a variety of formats for solo participants and relay teams of two to three people.
The standard triathlon format consists of three distinct segments:
- 5k skate ski (Classic skiing is permitted by contacting the organizers)
- 10k fat-tire bike ride
- 5k winter trail run
Participants can choose to compete as individuals in the 20K solo triathlon or as part of a relay group. Additionally, a duathlon option is available, which consists of a 10k bike ride followed by a 5k run, totaling a 15K distance.
The course features some hills, though it avoids the steepest inclines used in previous years. Transition areas are located at the start and include aid stations stocked with water, sports drinks, and snacks. All participants receive a finisher medal, and top overall winners and age group winners are recognized. In the event of insufficient snow for skiing, the organizers may adjust the triathlon to a run-bike-run format.
Rental options for cross-country skis and fat-tire bikes are available through local partners. The event takes place in various winter weather conditions, including snow and flurries, with course adjustments made only for athlete safety.
