Event Overview
The Estes Epic is a multi-discipline sports event held in Estes Park, Colorado. The event takes place in a remote wilderness setting, featuring rugged terrain and single-track trails. Participants navigate courses that include significant elevation changes and views of the surrounding Rocky Mountain National Park.
The event serves as the primary fundraiser for the Estes Park High School Mountain Bike Team. Entry fees contribute to race costs, equipment, and transportation for student athletes. Members of the school team assist during the weekend as course marshals and aid station volunteers.
Distance Options
Participants can choose from several trail-based disciplines:
- 50k Run: A course covering approximately 32 miles with 5,700 feet of vertical gain.
- 50k Bike: A mountain bike race following the same rugged 50k route.
- Epic Double: A combined category for those participating in multiple events.
- Heavy Half Marathon: A trail run longer than a standard half marathon distance.
Course Features
The 50k course includes three specific aid stations. Due to the route design, runners and riders access two of these stations twice, resulting in five total support stops at miles 5.6, 8, 16, 21.5, and 25.5.
The Heavy Half Marathon route utilizes one aid station twice, located at mile 5.6 and mile 9.7. All support points are stocked with water, endurance fuel, and a variety of sweet and salty packaged snacks. The terrain consists primarily of backcountry single track and involves substantial climbing. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
