Event Overview
The Driathlon is a multi-sport competition based in Bay City, Michigan. This event takes the format of a triathlon but replaces the swimming portion with a paddling segment. The course consists of a 5K paddle, followed by a 20K bike ride and a 5K run. Participants can choose between different formats depending on whether they wish to compete individually or in pairs.
Participation Formats
The event offers several divisions to accommodate individual athletes and teams:
- Individual Kayak: Participants complete a 5K paddle, a 20K bike, and a 5K run.
- 2 Person Team: Both partners participate together in all three segments: a 5K canoe, a 20K bike, and a 5K run.
- 2 Person Relay: Both partners complete the 5K canoe together, after which one partner bikes and the other runs.
For individual participants, there is an option to use a personal kayak or use one provided by the organizers. If using a personal kayak, participants must wear a life vest. In the team and relay divisions, canoes are provided for the paddling segment.
Categories and Equipment
Age categories for the two-person divisions are determined by the combined age of both partners, with divisions for total ages under 80 and 80 or over. These categories include male-only, female-only, and co-ed pairings. For individual kayak rentals, the equipment includes a single-person kayak, a paddle, and a life vest. The event takes place at 3940 Boy Scout Rd. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
