Event Overview
The Crystal Lake Aquathon returns for its ninth year to the Three Oaks Recreation Area in Crystal Lake, Illinois. This multisport event, known as the original Illinois Aquathon, features various timed competitions that combine swimming and running. All proceeds from the event benefit Girls on the Run of Northwest Illinois.
The swim portion is held in a modified quarry where participants swim around three islands. The run takes place on a course consisting of trail, sand, and pavement surfaces. Water temperature dictates the use of wetsuits; they are permitted if the water is below 78 degrees.
Race Options
Participants can choose from several distances and categories:
- Sprint Distance: A 500m swim followed by a 5k run.
- Olympic Distance: A 1 mile swim followed by a 10k run.
- 2 Mile Swim or 1 Mile Swim: Timed swim-only options.
- Relay Options: Available for both Sprint and Olympic distances for teams of two.
- Kids Race: For ages 7-13, featuring a 250m swim and a 1 mile run.
- Adaptive Swim: A 1 mile swim-only event for athletes requiring physical support or adaptive equipment.
The event concludes with a post-race celebration overlooking the water. Awards are presented to the top three finishers in the sprint, Olympic, and 2-mile swim categories. Participants receive handmade finisher medals created by the local Girls on the Run chapter. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
