Event Overview
The Carlyle Lake Triathlon takes place in Carlyle Township, Illinois. Organized in partnership with the City of Carlyle and the US Army Corps of Engineers, the event is held at the largest man-made lake in the state. Participants start the race with a beach entry for the swim portion in Carlyle Lake.
The bike course is designed as a flat route across the Illinois plains. The final running segment follows rolling country roads and concludes by crossing the spillway, which provides a view of the water and the dam. The event features several multi-sport disciplines, including triathlons, duathlons, and aquabike categories.
Available Distances
The event offers varied distances and formats for individual participants and relay teams:
- Olympic Triathlon: 1.5 km swim, 40 km bike, and 10 km run.
- Sprint Triathlon: 750 m swim, 20 km bike, and 5 km run.
- Olympic Duathlon: 5 km run, 40 km bike, and 10 km run.
- Sprint Duathlon: 3 km run, 20 km bike, and 5 km run.
- Olympic Aquabike: 1.5 km swim and 40 km bike.
- Sprint Aquabike: 750 m swim and 20 km bike.
Participation Details
The triathlon includes a dedicated Sprint High School category. All participants are required to present a photo ID and must pick up their race packets in person.
