Capital City Biathlon & 5K
The Capital City Biathlon & 5K takes place at Danenberger Family Vineyards in New Berlin, Illinois. This multi-sport event features a variety of distances combining running and cycling, as well as a standalone running race. All participants are chip timed, with timing beginning once the start line is crossed.
Participants can choose from several event categories:
- CCB 5K: A 3.1 mile flat, out and back run on Irish Road.
- Capital City Mini-Biathlon: A 1 mile run followed by a 7.5 mile bike ride.
- Capital City Biathlon: A 5K run followed by a 15 mile bike ride (two 7.5 mile loops).
- Biathlon for Teams: A two-person relay for the 18.1 mile distance.
- Biathlon Challenge: A combined event covering 26.6 miles.
The transition area is located in a bike corral near the finish line. Transition time, which includes the period spent switching from running gear to cycling equipment, is included in the total scoring time. Riders must wear a helmet and walk their bikes until they reach the road. The cycling portion follows specific rules, including no drafting and maintaining at least three bike lengths between riders.
The event site offers parking on the east side of the winery and access to indoor restrooms. Packet pickup occurs on the morning of the event at the check-in tent. After finishing, participants receive a finisher's medal and can access snacks at the winery. Awards are presented to top finishers and age bracket winners across all categories.
