About the race
Buff Betty Adventure Race, held at James River State Park in Gladstone, Virginia, is a women-designed, women-run event offering two formats: a 6-hour Taste of the Race and a 10-hour advanced course. Open to solo racers and teams of 2–4, participants hike, bike, paddle and navigate through optional checkpoints and mandatory transition areas. The 10-hour course adds more miles, routes, and navigation challenges; the 6-hour version targets beginners.
Both courses include paddling a scenic moving Class I stretch of the James River; boats are provided, and teams may bring their own paddles and PFDs. The atmosphere is friendly, supportive, and inclusive. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
